Starting Therapy

Prepare to start therapy

Starting Therapy is an exciting time! Here is a list of IMPORTANT things to do and be aware of.

  1. Please keep your kit in a safe place. There is a $30 charge to replace and ship it to you. Also, you need to take careful care of your Range Of Motion (ROM) scale and cotton rolls, you will need them at the end of the program.

2. If you haven’t already done it, check your internet speed here. It’s very important that we know the speed in case there are technical issues. Your speed will be faster with the internet cable hooked directly to your computer instead of using Wi-Fi, if possible.

3. It’s very important that you are familiar with your media settings and how to troubleshoot. Know how to make sure your camera and microphone work and where their settings are. Here is some information on checking your media settings.

4. Send the last of your photos/videos. Please email them to me at kelly@fundamentalmyotherapy.com

5. Click here to schedule your first therapy session. Click “Myofunctional therapy appointments” and make your selection, based upon the program that you are enrolled in.

Be sure to send these photos to kelly@fundamentalmyotherapy.com

** Please make sure that all photos are clean and not blurry or too DARK. If you have taken a photo inside the mouth and it's dark, please RETAKE IT WITH A FLASH or in better lighting! A blurry or dark photo is not diagnostic. Save time by making sure your photos are useful! If you've already taken the necessary photos for your comprehensive evaluation, you only need to send the ones you haven't taken yet, and any retakes that I've asked for.
HELPFUL TIPS:
Have someone help you take the photos or take photos with your back camera on your phone by doing so in front of a mirror with good lighting and flash on

  1. Front view with shoulders.
  2. Side profile showing full face, jawline, ear and shoulder.
  3. A picture of what YOUR mouth looks like when it is relaxed. This may be open or closed. DON’T copy my mouth posture. Make sure you get an accurate photo of what YOUR resting mouth posture is!
  4. Close up of your smile.

5. Open mouth wide and suction tongue up if possible. Be sure to get a clear photo of the underside of the tongue.

6. Open mouth naturally and show the back of the airway. Make sure tongue is IN the mouth and DO NOT say AHHH. We are NOT attempting to look at the tonsils in this photo.

7. Open mouth wide and attempt to stick tongue STRAIGHT OUT. Capture the photo showing what the tongue does when you are attempting to stick it straight out.

8. Clear image showing bottom arch and all teeth.

9. Clear image showing the upper arch, palate and all teeth. You are showing me the shape of your palate in this photo, so please make sure the whole palate is visible.

10. This may take 2 photos to clearly show the needed information. I need to be able to see where the frenum attaches onto the TONGUE (towards the free end of the tongue) AND I need to be able to see where it attaches to the FLOOR of the mouth. This photo example shows both in one shot, so a second one wasn’t needed. Please check the quality of your photo and make sure it is adequate or send two different photos.

11. This picture needs to be a very clear photo of the TONSILS, or the TONSILLAR area if they have been removed. This may take several tries, and it is important to use your flash. Make sure both tonsils are showing, or it is a clear picture of the area where they were!

12. Using the included cotton roll, please take a picture of it placed at the location of the tooth behind your canine (the long, pointy corner tooth).

13. Using the cotton roll again, please take a photo of it placed at the location of your 1st molar. This will be the first molar as you are moving along towards where the wisdom teeth are/were. Wisdom teeth are 3rd molars, that should help you know which tooth your 1st molar is.

14. Using the included range of motion scale, please take a clear picture of your mouth OPEN AS WIDE AS POSSIBLE. Make sure this picture is clear and that I can read the measurement where your top front teeth contact the tool. Make sure the lower notch is resting gently on the lower teeth as shown.

15. Using the included range of motion scale, please take a clear picture of your mouth open as wide as possible with your tongue TOUCHING THE ROOF OF YOUR MOUTH DIRECTLY BEHIND THE TOP FRONT TEETH. I do NOT want you suctioning in this photo. I just want the tongue tip touching behind the top front teeth. Please make sure this picture is clear and that I can read the measurement where your top front teeth contact the tool. Make sure the lower notch is resting gently on the lower teeth as shown.

16-18. Using the included cheek retractors take a clear picture of your bite from the right side, the left side and one of your bite straight on.
